Hireflix interviews, and the five-minute default
A recorded screen with nobody on the other end. What Hireflix's own help center says about your timer, and the one default worth knowing.
Hireflix is the software your employer used, not the employer. You get a link, you record answers to their questions on your own time, and nobody watches live.
The number worth knowing: Hireflix's answering time limit defaults to five minutes. That is much longer than most people assume, and the mistake it produces is not running out of time — it is talking for four minutes when ninety seconds was the better answer.
The three settings, and who chose them
Hireflix's help center documents think time and the answering time limit as things the recruiter configures when building the interview, and retakes as something that can be set per question. So the honest answer to "how long do I get?" is the same here as on every other platform in this section: your employer decided, and your invitation is the only place the real numbers appear.
- Think time — set by the recruiter. Hireflix's own documentation uses thirty seconds as its example, not as a rule.
- Answering time limit — five minutes by default, per Hireflix's help center. The recruiter can change it.
- Retakes — configurable per question. A recruiter can also clear specific answers after a submission so you can re-record just those, using the same link.
Why a five-minute limit is harder than a two-minute one
A short timer tells you what to do: pick one story, land it, stop. A five-minute window gives you enough rope to restate your resume, wander into a second example, and finish with no result attached to either. Nobody interrupts to bring you back, because nobody is there.
Treat the limit as a ceiling and not a target. If your answer is done at ninety seconds, stop at ninety seconds. Silence after a finished answer reads as control. Four minutes of filler reads as four minutes of filler.
If your invitation names a different vendor
- Your own three numbers. Think time, answering limit and retakes are per-interview settings. The five-minute figure is Hireflix's documented default, not a promise about your interview.
- How many questions you will get. The employer builds the question set; Hireflix does not publish a standard length.
- How your recording is evaluated. Hireflix's documentation covers building and taking an interview, not how the employer scores what you recorded.
- Whether you can pause and return. Not stated in the documentation read for this page. Assume you cannot, and start only when you are ready.
